"Do things differently!" has been Tim Bengel's motto since his strike against the school system as a teenager. That same year, at the age of 18, he won the student art prize, paving the way for his artistic career.

 

His innovative and aesthetically appealing gold and sand collage technique made him famous overnight. Videos of his works reached over 500 million people on social media. In 2017, Tim Bengel opened his first solo exhibition in New York and has been working as a professional artist since.

True to his white and gold aesthetic, Bengel completed his first installation in 2019, the 'Flower-Skull-Cemetery' on the grounds of the Factory in Berlin Mitte. The installation features 100 gold-engraved grave stones that offer a humorous and critical look at one's own life path.

With the goal of "freezing the zeitgeist," Bengel presented his first sculptural work in Berlin and Miami in 2021. 'Who wants to live forever?' is a solid gold avocado bagel cast from approximately 7000 grams of gold. The work engages with the zeitgeisty millennial culture, a green double standard, and social media hype.

Even while working on the avocado sculpture, Bengel deepened his thoughts on the topic of superfoods. His observation shows that the greatest superfood probably grows right outside our front door: cabbage!

 

In the fall of 2023, Tim Bengel, together with other great artists, will dedicate an exhibition to the underestimated superfood cabbage.

Tim Bengel was born in Stuttgart in 1991. He studied art history and philosophy at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. Bengel lives and works in Esslingen near Stuttgart.
